8220;I have always chosen to do wild and whacky roles,8221; confesses Achint Kaur
You last saw her play the perpetually drunk Vedika on Smriti Irani8217;s uber popular soap 8216;Viruddh8217; that recently wound up. And it was more than Vedika8217;s flaming red lip colour that made a mark. It was her performance and for television8217;s leading 8220;negative character8221; Achint Kaur, it was a comeback of sorts. 8220;Viruddh was a brilliant experience,8221; admits Achint, speaking to us from Mumbai where she8217;s currently shooting for Zee TV8217;s new show 8216;Ranbir Rano8217;, an eternal love story based in the backdrop of Punjab. 8220;At a time when the industry was going through a phase of daily dramas that brought in heckling saas and bahus, Viruddh offered me a character that was anything but flat,8221; you hear Achint emphatically put across. But she did keep up with her track record of playing conniving and mean. 8220;I just can8217;t play straight characters and somehow I have always chosen to do wild and whacky roles,8221; says Kaur who is not a professionally trained actor but was 8220;lucky8221; to have got a break with in Banegi Apni Baat. 8220;There I was married and with a son! It was on a friend8217;s insistence that I gave acting a try,8221; since then she8217;s starred in shows like Kitty Party and Saaya. 8220;I don8217;t like to keep myself overtly busy with work and which is why you8217;ll see me do one show at a time,8221; tells Achint who rules out films for the moment. But not theatre. 8220;I have been wanting to do theatre for a long time. And six months back I did my first play Double Deal,8221; says Kaur who is looking to bring the very play to Chandigarh soon.
