Reasons behind DP changes should be made public: Dharia
Appealing the citizens to file their suggestions and objections regarding the modifications made in the Development Plan for Baner-Balewadi before December 2, the civic activists have sought to know what prompted the state government to make alterations in the DP without even bringing it to the notice of the Pune Municipal Corporation PMC.
The Green Pune Movement had organised a discussion on the Baner-Balewadi DP. Former mayor Vandana Chavan urged that people to come forward and register their suggestions and objections.
She said, 8220;Due to the increasing level of pollution, the reservations for gardens and playgrounds will act as the lungs of the city and therefore necessary. If the hospitals or schools start running on the reserved lands, it is going to benefit the lower income groups from that locality.8221;
Aneeta Beninger said, 8220;A total of 46 modifications have been made in the development plan of Baner-Balewadi, which is the first unit out of the total ten units of the 23 merged villages of PMC. The most important reservation is that of a Bio Diversity Park, the decision on which is yet to be taken. For the cominggenerations the reservations will play and important role.8221;
Vanrai president Mohan Dharia said, 8220;The whole issue smacks of corruption and as pointed earlier, there has been an irregularity of Rs 500 crore in it. Hence, the reasons behind these changes in the DP should be made public.8221;
MLC Chandrakant Patil said, 8220;Nowadays, the civic administrations in all the municipal councils or corporations, is taking people for granted and passing decisions on their own.8221;
Maj Gen Rtd S C N Jatar said that the Green DP movement should not be limited just for a short period of time.
8220;The civic administration took five years for this, while the state government kept sitting on it for more than three years and now the same government is giving only two months for filing the suggestions and objections, which is unfair. There should be a minimum of six months provided for this.8221;
Activist Vijay Kumbhar, standing committee chairman Shyam Deshpande, Sandeep Khardekar were present on the occasion.
