NEW DELHI, April 9: Introduction of the double-trap event will be the highlight of the 41st National Shooting championship, to be inaugurated at Dr Karni Singh Ranges Tughlakabad tomorrow.

Kumar Surendra Singh, president of the National Rifle Association of India NRAI, said the championship, being conducted in two parts, will lead to the selection of the Indian team for the busy international calender ahead. About 650 shooters including Jaspal Rana, Mansher Singh, Ashok Pandit, Rao Inderjit Singh, Harvinder Singh, Sheila Kanungo, Kuheli Gangulee and Roopa Unnikrishnan will be seen training their guns in various events.

Surendra Singh said the double-trap event, which is an Olympic event in the 12 bore gun, is being included in the list of competitions for the first time. The event has also been designated at one of the selection trials for the upcoming international competitions.

The Atlanta World Cup, to be held in May this year, is to be followed by Grand Prix at Georgia, World Championship atBarcelona in July, Commonwealth Games in Langkawi Malaysia in September and Asian Games in Bangkok in December.

The NRAI president said the first part of national rule matches are already underway while the second part in which events would be conducted according to international rules, would be held in both senior and junior categories from April 10 to 19. He said during the selection of the team, a kind of quota would be fixed with two shooters selected from each category.

NRAI secretary general Baljit Singh Sethi said the shooters would not be starved of ammunition which have been imported.
