CHANDIGARH, Jan 8: The Central Administrative Tribunal CAT today adjourned the hearing on the writ petition challenging the second extension given to Punjab DGP P.C. Dogra to January 14 on the request of the counsel of Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The counsel C S Vaidyanathan pleaded that the Ist Additional Solicitor General of India was to appear before the tribunal, but he could not make it to the city as he was occupied with the swearing in ceremony of Supreme Court judges at Delhi.
During last hearing on January 4, the tribunal had directed the counsel of Union Home Ministry to file a fresh affidavit on or before January 8 for final decision in the case stating whether the notification regarding extension in service rules was in his knowledge or not. Earlier when the matter arose in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the case was referred to the CAT.
Three ADGPs Sarabjit Singh, M S Bhullar and G S Chahal had sought stay of the six months on second extension given to Dogra in September last year by the Central Government at the end of the first similar extension given to him by the state government.
