AMBALA, Jan 10: Haryana Health Minister Om Prakash Mahajan disclosed that granting of non-practicing allowance to the government doctors at par with the doctors in Union government was under active consideration of the government and a a decision in this regard would be made very shortly.
He also said that the anomalies in the pay scales following implementation of the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission, would also be removed to meet the demand of the doctors. He was speaking at the 24th Annual Convention of the Haryana Civil Medical Services Association at the Arya Girls College auditorium here today. The convention was presided over by the association president Dr D. S. Dhankhar and Haryana Financial Commissioner and Secretary Health Komal Anand was the guest of honour.
The minister, while denouncing some elements amongst the doctors, said that there was a section of them who were habitual shirkers and corrupt and were responsible for tarnishing the image of the noble profession dedicated to the service of suffering humanity. But reiterated that the government was sympathetic to the genuine demands of the doctors.
Expressing concern on the increasing population of Haryana in comparison to the states of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and others, the health secretary stated that the state population was above the National average of population mainly due to the migratory population which the state was housing. She urged the doctors to work for checking the population. She also impressed upon the doctors to make the World Bank sponsored Health projects and programes successful and to ensure the eradication of Malaria. She assured the doctors that the government was reviewing their demands, received through the memoranda presented by the HCMSA from time to time.
Earlier, the state Health Services Director General Dr. P.L. Jindal, responding to the demands presented before the convention by the association president Dr D. S. Dhankhar, said that all the demands of doctors including the NPA, rural house allowance, conveyance allowance, granting relief in cases of consumer protection cases etc., were under active consideration of the government. He disclosed that since the budget of health services had been doubled, there was no shortage of medicines in the hospitals but was amazed that the directorate had not received any demand for TMT, gall bladder machine and other sensitive apparatus from any of the hospitals. He however, regretted that the role of private doctors in the efforts for eradication of epidemics was negligible.
About 1,000 delegates from all over the state attended the convention.
