The students and staff members of Vocational Rehibilitatin Training Centre VRTC on Thursday staged a dharna outside a petrol pump on Humbran Road, after the owner of the petrol station allegedly misbehaved with some teachers of the institute over a wall dispute.

Some 50 handicapped and blind students of the institute shouted slogans against the owner of the petrol pump and also blocked the entrance to the petrol station for over two hour in the afternoon. The protesting staff members were demanding an apology in writing.

Earlier, the matter took an ugly turn after some teachers approached the owner of the petrol station with regard to a dispute related to the adjoining wall this morning.

The teachers had gone to the station to talk about the matter pertaining to an adjoining wall which was allegedly broken at some places by the petrol station owners. Sarah Johnson, director of the institute, said that she had asked the owner of the petrol pump to build the broken areas of the wall, which they had agreed upon.

The teachers alleged that the owner of the station, Raj Kumar manhandled the teachers and misbehaved with them. 8220;We had gone to him to talk about the issue pertaining to the wall which they had scraped to insert electricity wire into it. But, the owner of the station shouted at us and misbehaved with one of the teachers,8221; said Sarah Walter, hostel warden at the institute.

However, Raj Kumar said that he had only asked the teachers to leave the place and had not misbehaved with them. Meanwhile the police also tried to intervene in the matter. Later, some local leaders including Ravinder Arora and Narinder Makkar mediated between the two sides. The matter was resolved after a meeting between the two the instutute authorities and the petrol pump owners after the latter extended an apology.
