A team of Bathinda police on Monday arrested Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh at his dera in Sirsa. He was immediately bailed out as per directions of the court after he submitted a security of Rs 1 lakh. The police team also seized his passport.

The dera chief was booked under Section 295-A on May 20 at Kotwali police station, Bathinda, for hurting religious sentiments of Sikhs by allegedly appearing in an attire akin to one worn by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru.

Earlier on Monday, a police party headed by investigating officer Harvinder Singh Virk went to Sirsa to arrest the Dera chief. Bathinda SSP Naunihal confirmed the developments. He said the Dera chief would join the investigations as and when required.

The 20-member team lead by Inspector Harvinder Singh Virk first went to the Sadar Police Station at Sirsa to seek cooperation from the Haryana Police in asking Gurmeet Singh to join the investigations.

The team accompanied by the SHO of Sadar Police Station then left for the dera and did not face any resistance in entering the headquarters around which police had been deployed in strength.

Dera officials had on Sunday asked some of its devotees to stay on after the monthly religious discourse of their chief anticipating arrival of the police.

The CBI — investigating murder cases against Gurmeet Singh — will submit its “sealed report” before the Punjab and Haryana High Court here, sources said.
