Students protested in front of the Hindustan Institute of Dental College, a dental college approved by the Dental Council of India, as the institute admitted only 50 students after enrolling 93 in the Bachelor of Dental Surgery course.
Authorities at the college, located in Knowledge Part III, Greater Noida, however, claimed they are in talks with other leading dental colleges to get seats for the rest of the students.
The college used to have 100 seats for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery course, and it had approved the admissions of around 93 students. However, when the students went to seek admission on Friday, college authorities told them the Dental Council of India had approved only 50 seats. 8220;We were in a state of shock when we got to know that our admissions had been cancelled by the college, as they didn8217;t have sanction for more than 50 seats,8221; Subhash Bhati, a student who was denied admission, said.
The students said the college didn8217;t inform them of the limited seats and they had deposited their fees. 8220;Thursday, October 30, was the last date of seeking admission in any of the dental colleges. We are in a fix as the college took the admission fee and we thought they would take us,8221; Amit Chowdhary, another student seeking clarification, said.
P K Gupta, chairman, Hindustan Institute, said they have already talked to leading dental colleges for securing seats for the remaining students. Contrary to the claims made by the students, Gupta said, 8220;Only 65 students were admitted and we have got 15 students a seat in ITS Dental College.8221;
8220;During a visit, the Dental Council of India found that we were short by one faculty member. We told them this was no basis for denying us 50 seats for the course but they did not listen,8221; he said.
