Demand for Mayor8217;s resignation picks up

CHANDIGARH, May 15: A number of opposition political parties have demanded the resignation of Mayor Gian Chand Gupta, following the filing of a chargesheet against him in a local court. Gupta was charged of assault and electricity theft following the complaint of Municipal Corporation Superintending Engineer K.B. Sharma.

Among those seeking Gupta8217;s resignation are Congressmen Ram Pal Sharma, Chander Mukhi Sharma, Gurcharan Dass Kala and Vikram Sharma, who have said that charges against him were grave. They also charge him of quot;misuse of positionquot;.

In a separate press release, Congressmen Subhash Kataria and Kamaljit Singh Panchhi have also demanded his resignation following the chargesheet against him. A similar demand was also sought by former Youth Congress leaders Surjit Chaudhary and Kamal Sood.
