Delhi8217;s hopes of winning the national hockey title after 64 years were dashed. And Punjab and Sind Bank PSB vanquished Delhi 3-1 to retain title in the Dainik Bhaskar-Tracer Senior National Hockey Championship final at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today.

Striker Parminder Singh played a key role in their win, slamming in two goals and assisting in the third to help PSB lift the glittering Rangaswamy Cup. Earlier, star-studded Indian Oil Corporation had trounced Namdhari XI 7-2 in the third place play-off.

Playing on their home turf amid raucous supporters, PSB justified their tag of being the best domestic team. Delhi found it difficult to contain their rivals as PSB8217;s Rajwinder Singh provided his team with the lead in the 17th minute off a pass from Parminder. Five minutes later, Parminder was in business again 8212; this time as a scorer. He left the Delhi goalkeeper stranded with a crisp shot from the top of the striking circle to consolidate their position.

The change of ends gave no respite to Delhi as PSB, playing with verve and purpose, stamped their class in the match. Parminder completed the tally for the the winners in the 44th minute, making most of a set piece ball from Kulwinder Singh. Delhi had something to cheer about when skipper Bikash Toppo scored a consolation goal off a pass from Gurwinder Singh in the 59th minute.

The playoff game for the third place proved to be a one-sided affair as seasoned IOC literally toyed with Namdhari XI.
