
40,000 teachers plan strike
More than 40,000 teachers of the Kendriya Vidyalayas will go on a chalk-down strike on January 19 demanding the immediate implementation of higher replacement scales recommended by the Fifth Pay Commission for the teaching staff. They have also threatened to go on a mass casual leave on January 24.
Power supply to be affected
Power supply to a number of West and South-West Delhi colonies will be affected on Saturday due to maintenance work by the Delhi Vidyut Board (DVB) staff.
The board spokesman said that supply would be disconnected in Janakpuri, Raghu Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Palam, Mayapuri areas at 9.00 a.m. and will be restored around 5.00 p.m. The spokesman added that cash collection counters at Shakti Sadan Rouse Avenue will remain open on all Saturdays, till the month of March, during normal working hours from 8.30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
Ex-IAF chief to head Helpage
Air Chief Marshal S.K.Mehra (retd.) will be the president of Helpage India from April One. He will take from M.M.Sabharwal, who has been on the post since 1986.
Mehra has previously worked for the cause and brings with him a vast experience. He is a highly decorated officer of the IAF.
SPIC-MACAY festival
The annual festival of the SPIC-MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) will begin in the Capital on January 20. The inaugural performance by eminent Kathak dancer Sitara Devi will take place at Lady Erwin College at 5.30 p.m.
