Safdarjung doctors to stage dharna

Doctors of the Safdurjung Hospital wore black badges on Tuesday. They will be staging a dharna outside the Medical Superintendent’s office on Wednesday (between 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.), demanding a high-level judicial inquiry into the death of a 28-year-old senior resident doctor Harish Chand Gupt in Agra.

"Dr Gupt, who worked in the radiology department, got married only last month. In the general body meeting held on Tuesday we demanded immediate arrest of the culprit and compensation to his immediate family," said Dr Inderpal Singh, joint secretary of the Resident Doctors Association.

Conference on new media technologies

BES Expo’ 98 the 4th International Conference and Exhibition on New Media Technologies is being held at Hotel Taj Palace. The three-day conference, which concludes on Wednesday, is being organised by Broadcast Engineering Society (India) to encourage education, research and training in specialised fields of broadcasting.

Dr Om P.Khushu, Director (technical) Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union, Malaysia, while delivering the keynote address for the session on Tuesday, deliberated upon the digital march in the future radio and television services.

Power supply to be affected

Power supply in some West Delhi colonies will be affected on Wednesday due to routine maintenance of equipment by the Delhi Vidyut Board (DVB). The Board spokesman on Tuesday said that power supply to the Mayapuri industrial area, the Mayapuri residential area, Kirti Nagar, parts of Rajouri Garden, pockets of Subhash Nagar, Naraina, DMS Patel Nagar, Inderpuri and Pusa area will be affected. He said DVB would try to restore supply by the evening.

Bravery award winners call on Lt-Governor

National bravery award winners for 1997 on Tuesday called on Lt. Governor Tejendra Khanna at Raj Niwas.

Khanna exhorted the award winners, who will be honoured on Republic Day for their courage, bravery and gallantry, to adopt a helping attitude towards others.

"Their (children’s) achievement is unique and praiseworthy. It goes to show their determination in facing dangerous moments," he said.

Four of the 21 award winners are being awarded posthumously.
