Defying V-C order, PAU non-teaching staff to go ahead with today146;s rally

After almost day-long meetings and brain-storming sessions, the union decided not to cancel the rally, saying though the letter had been withdrawn the issue pertaining to the appointment of a secretary from their cadre had not been addressed yet.

Union president Harbans Singh Mundi said: 8220;Only one thing can defer our rally and that is if the V-C announces a new name from the non-teaching cadre for the secretary8217;s post on Wednesday morning.8221; The rally is scheduled to start around 1 pm.

Mundi claimed: 8220;Dr Kang had told us earlier that he had to make this appointment very suddenly as he needed a secretary after the former incumbent was transferred two months ago. He has been assuring us that this post will be reverted back to our cadre soon. He had promised to appoint a new secretary in 15 days8217; time. It has been two months now and all we have got from him so far are assurances. We want action now.8221;
