Declare financial emergency: JD

CHANDIGARH, Dec 18: The state unit of Janata Dal has demanded the imposition of financial emergency in Punjab. In a press statement, coordinator of the Steering Committee of the Dal Harish Khanna stated that the state government has introduced populist schemes to strengthen its vote bank without delving into the consequences of such schemes on the state8217;s economy.

The party has also called for immediate publication of a white paper on the state8217;s economy. Khanna stated that the state unit of Janata Dal and Yuva Janata Dal would be organising a rally of its workers on Sunday at Ludhiana to highlight the ill-effects of policies being pursued by the state government.
