The US Trade Representative office and the Agriculture Department today announced that the United States and India resolved long-standing issues regarding potential pests and diseases and agreed on a framework outlining fundamental requirements for bilateral trade of commodities treated by irradiation.
This provides a road map for exporting mangoes to the United States. The agreement, signed by the US Department of agriculture and the Indian Department of agriculture and cooperation, now sets in motion bilateral procedures that would permit mangoes to be sold in US markets in around 18 months. This effectively resolves a 17-year trade issue between the two countries.
