What Advani has done in Pakistan is to begin a debate over our very complicated history. Not only the role of Jinnah but Congress and its leaders like Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, etc, must also be re-examined with regard to the partition of India. How Jinnah, an ambassador of Hindu-Muslim unity, became a Muslim communalist needs to be probed. History books so far have singularly blamed Jinnah for partition. Historian from both countries should sit together to write an objective history of partition. The debate must go on.

Who8217;s right?
8226; I am shocked at the savage reaction of the RSS and VHP to L.K. Advani8217;s statement on Jinnah. No wonder our nation has had a stunted growth. We have such rabid people as our leaders who are still living in the eighteenth century. They do not understand diplomacy or good neighbourly relations or even simple courtesies. I think the RSS and the VHP and other such like rabid organisations have outlived their usefulness, and now need to fade away.

8226; Your paper is just glorifying L.K. Advani. It is foolhardy to say that Advani has an all-India appeal. His statements about Jinnah and the Masjid demolotion will not make him secular. In fact, he is going to lose whatever support he has got for it conclusively establishes his flip-flop on various issues.

8226; This refers to the politicisation of the Sangeet Natak Academi with the appointment of Congress leader Ram Niwas Mirdha as its new chairman, even though it may be that the earlier chairperson, Sonal Mansingh, also had some political affiliation. It is wrong to change personnel in these oprganisations based on the wishes of the political masters of the day.

Screening dangers
8226; The health ministry8217;s proposal to ban smoking on the silver screen has rightly come in for widespread ridicule and railing. If our rulers are really concerned that viewing smoking is injurious to the viewers, why are they conveniently and studiously overlooking the other utterly unhealthy, vitriolic and venomously violent scenes on the screen?

8226; During this extended break from active cricket the India team needs to focus on the Sachin Tendulkar question. His time is up and India need to find a replacement for him as he is not fit these days and it is better that he retires and makes way for new players. Virendra Sehwag should be made captain of the Indian cricket team with Mohammed Kaif as his deputy.
