Santro drives into rural India
Hyundai Motor India has launched a new promotional scheme titled Ghar Ghar Ki Pehchaan in which it would extend special schemes for government employees in rural areas and members of gram panchayats on the purchase of the Hyundai Santro. The scheme runs till July 31. Through this special rural scheme Hyundai Motor India plans to touch base with at least 58 per cent of Indian villages with a population of 500 or more. The company’s dealers will contact the panchayats and conduct regular road shows, distributing pamphlets and posters to promote the scheme. Hyundai is also in talks with a financing institution with a huge branch network to extend easy financing options for the people in rural India. According to a recent survey almost 50 per cent of the 220 million households in rural India are potential car buyers due to the agricultural subsidies extended by the government and also due to increase in productivity of agri-based products.

The hotels business is a fast growing and important segment for MakeMyTrip and it generated 10 percent of its total revenue from the sector in the previous fiscal. The company aims to increase its inventory of hotels to over 4,000 by 2008-9. In line with its strategy to focus on non-air business this year, MakeMyTrip has also set up regional offices in 20 locations and plans to expand further this year.
