Dalits accepting Rahul has unnerved Maya: Cong

Congress on Wednesday said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s vitriol against Rahul Gandhi showed she was having “sleepless nights” due to the young Congress MP’s “acceptance” among Dalits.

The Chief Minister has “lost her cool only due to increasing base of Congress among Dalits and she was afraid of Rahul’s “acceptance” among dalits, Union Minister of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal said while addressing an election rally in Khalilabad Lok Sabha constituency.

“Only Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Nehru family and Mahatma Gandhi have really worked for Dalits. Congress has always been protecting the right of Dalits and its increasing base among them again due to activeness of Rahul Gandhi has started giving sleepless nights to Mayawati”, Jaiswal said.

“Mayawati is afraid of Rahul Gandhi and this is the reason she is making baseless allegations against him”, Jaiswal said, a day after the BSP supremo had reiterated the charge that Rahul bathed with a “special” soap after every visit to Dalit homes.

Attacking the BSP government, Jaiswal said all developmental schemes running in the state were funded by the Centre and the state had “failed miserably” in implementing these schemes.
