A full-fledged intelligence wing will increase the Central Reserve Police Force's success rate in counter-insurgency operations. A proposal in this regard was under consideration of the Union Home Ministry, CRPF Director General V K Joshi said on Monday. Referring to the success in anti-Naxal operations in Jharkhand, Joshi said it was possible due to "good intelligence". But the force is looking at Chhattisgarh, that has been battling the problem for several years now, to take steps for effective intelligence. Governments in Naxal-affected states needed to gather intellligence at the ground level and share it with the central paramilitary force, Joshi pointed out at his first interaction with the media after taking over as DG, CRPF. The remarks are significant since the Home Ministry has been pushing Naxal-affected states to revamp their intelligence machinery. The Centre has promised all possible help in achieving this objective, with the ministry pointing out that "actionable" intelligence was the need of the hour. Effective intelligence, incidentally, is also the key to success in Jammu and Kashmir where CRPF is in charge of security and counter-insurgency operations along with the state police. Joshi also spoke about cases of fratricide and the steps being taken to check the problem. On the force personnel having links with the militants who attacked Rampur centre, he said no connivance had been established. Action had been taken against 12 for dereliction of duty.
