
Robber caught
The Karelibaug police on Saturday arrested one Ravindra Chaudhary, allegedly involved in stealing a truck with castor oil worth Rs 5 lakhs, from Shreeji Market here on August 21. According to the police, Chaudhary approached truck driver Madan alias Gabbar and befriended him. He later drove away with the truck when Gabbar was sitting at a transport company office. The accused is on a 10-day remand.
Houses robbed
Valuables worth thousands of rupees were reported stolen from two locked houses in the Navapura and Panigate areas last night. According to the police, while two ceiling fans, three chairs and one geyser, together valued at Rs 22,000, were allegedly stolen from a house in Kashi Vishwanath Society on Jawahar Nagar Road in Navapura area by breaking open the house8217;s main door lock, goods worth thousands of rupees were reportedly stolen from house no. 35 in Surabhi Park Society in Waghodia.
Suicide bids
Two persons made vain bids to commit suicide by consuming poison in different parts of the city last evening. According to the police, while Kailashben Gopabhai Chauhan, a resident of Shiyabaug under Navapura Police Station, tried to take her own life by drinking insecticide after an arguement with her husband over domestic work, Kamleshbhai Attarsinh Rajput, a resident of 701, Swad quarters, on Harni Road, attempted to kill himself by taking mosquito repellent ointment because of poverty.
