Man beaten
A 35-year-old unidentified man was beaten up by the public while trying to escape after snatching a gold chain worth Rs 7,000 from the neck of a school student in the Sayaji Zoo on Sunday afternoon. According to the police, Monica Bharat Soni, a standard X student of Sayaji High School in Mandvi area, had gone to see the zoo along with her classmates and her teacher Rupaben, when the youth snatched the chain and took to heels. However, he was caught by nearby visitors and beaten up. When he fell unconscious, he was admitted to the SSG Hospital for treatment. The Sayajigunj police have registered a case of robbery under section 392 of IPC against him.

Road mishap
A crew member of a goods truck GJ-7-X-9563 was killed on the spot and the truck driver injured seriously when their vehicle hit a stationary truck GJ-4-T-9169 on national highway No 8 between Ajwa Road and Waghodia Road crossing on Saturday. According to the Panigate police, the axle of the truck, which was parked on the roadside for repairs, was broken when the cement-laden truck from Rajula rammed into it from behind.
