
Three people died and two were severely injured in a mishap at the Saurashtra Chemicals factory at Porbandar on Wednesday evening.
The incident took place when the installation work of a new crane was in progress at the factory premises. All of a sudden, a huge part of the new crane tumbled over on the labourers, claiming the life of two, Prabhu Purau 32 and Ramavtar Purau 35 and injuring others. Another labourer, Vijay Subau 20, suffered severe injuries and was shifted to the Porbandar Hospital from where he was again shifted to the Rajkot Hospital, where he breathed his last.
Girdhar Asthra and Ketan Trivedi, two other labourers, were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment at the Porbandar Hospital.According to Saurashtra Chemical sources, the victims, the crane operator and the supervisor are all employees of private contractors, working at their site on a hire basis. The police have now registered a complaint of criminal negligence against the crane driver and the supervisor on duty and started further investigations.
