MUMBAI, April 2: Wondering whether you will get to Varanasi this vacation after all? No sweat. The Central Railway (CR) has decided to gift passengers on their waiting lists confirmed bookings by flagging off 19 holiday specials from April 11.

Rather than merely tagging on additional trains to the regular ones to Varanasi and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, the CR will automatically transfer the first 80 passengers on their waiting lists to the holiday specials leaving from the Kurla Terminus – with confirmed reservations.

The railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Mukul Marwah told Express Newsline that persons queueing up at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) to see whether they have inched up the waiting list will instead be given confirmed bookings on the holiday specials.

Two counters, nos 54 and 55, will be opened at CST from April 9 specifically for the scheme, which will benefit over a lakh passengers.

"If the travellers’ ticket status on the list is 80 or above, he will get confirmedtickets on the additional trains, which leave within two days after the scheduled train," he explained. Even if the passenger is further down the waiting list, the possibility of getting a confirmed booking by the time reservations for the special commence, cannot be ruled out.
