Oil distributor summoned
Metropolitan Magistrate MM Manoj Jain today ordered Rohit Distributors to appear in court on November 23. The distributor had reportedly supplied the Dhara brand of mustard oil to an oil trader, Roopchand, who was yesterday remanded to judicial custody till the same date.

Roopchand was remanded to judicial custody following confirmatory reports about the presence of argemone in the Dhara brand oil sample taken from his shop. The reports were sent to the court by the Centre for Food Laboratory, Calcutta.

The MM also transferred the cases of traders Rakesh Kumar Arora and Balkishan the sessions court of Sharda Aggarwal. Loose oil samples taken from their shops were also found adulterated with argemone. The two had been remanded to judicial custody by the MM till today.

Another trader, Narain, was today found guilty by the MM for selling sub-standard spices in his shop. A sample of dry ginger, bought from his shop on S P Mukherjee Marg on September 25 1992, was found to be insect infested. The accused has been sentenced to 15 months simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000.
