AHMEDABAD, Oct 4: With the polls (and the exit polls) over, it's time for the results. And the wait for them won't be long, at least in the constituencies where electronic voting machines (EVMs) have been used. In fact, they'll be out even before the others have finished mixing the ballot papers.In Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituencies, the final results will be available by 12 noon or latest by 1 pm on October 6. Chief Election Officer Balwant Singh said the first trends in these two constituencies would be available after one hour of the counting process beginning at 8 am.The CEO said that in these two constituencies, each table would have one EVM and once the results were available from that particular table, a second round of counting with a new set would begin. In all nearly 3,100 EVMs were used in the Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad constituencies.He said as per the arrangement, each candidate would be allowed to have one agent on each table. Singh said that the first trends for the other 24 constituencies would be available by 2 pm, with the entire counting process likely to get completed by the morning of October 7.He said nearly 25,000 persons had been deployed at the 26 counting centres in the State. This would be besides the policemen being deployed at each counting centre.The police, meanwhile, have made elaborate arrangements to ensure peaceful counting. The district heads have been entrusted the duty of ensuring a peaceful last phase. The Additional D-G Law and Order Hiralal said the DCP had been ordered to make arrangements for the victory processions also. He said that companies of SRP had also been provided in each district to maintain law and order.He said that in Ahmedabad too, elaborate arrangements have been made. Sources in the city police said that about 1,000 police personnel would be deployed at the three counting centres at L D College where counting for Gandhinagar would take place. Counting for Dhandhuka will be held at Government Polytechnic college in the city and counting for Ahmedabad will take place at Gujarat College.City Police Commissioner P C Pandey, in a notification, has banned assembly of four or more persons outside the three counting centres in the city. Pandey said that no one would be allowed to use mikes, shout solgans or hold meetings or take out procession within 200 metres of these centres. He said that no unauthorised person would be allowed to enter the counting centres. According to the election office in Gandhinagar, counting for Chotta-Udepur and Vadodara would take place at Faculty of Commerce, M S University and Polytechnic College, M S University in Vadodara, respectively.Counting for Kutch would be at R R Lalan College, Bhuj; for Suredranagar at M P Shah Arts and Commerce College, Surendranagar; at A K Doshi Women Arts and Commerce College for Jamnagar; P D Malaviya Commerce College for Rajkot; Government Polytechnic for Porbander; Agriculture Engineering College for Junagadh; Prataprai Arts College for Amreli; Bhavsinhji Polytechnic Institute for Bhavnagar; CISF dormatary complex, ONGC, Palavasana for Mehsana; K D Polytechnic college for Patan; Government ITI building Palanpur for Banaskantha; Government Polytechnic College and Himmatnagar Kelvan Mandal Arts and Commerce College in Himmatnagar for Sabarkantha and Kapadwanj, respectively; Government Polytechnic, Jhalod for Dahod; Industrial Training Institute for Godhra; I V Patel Commerce College for Kaira; B J V M Commerce College, Vallabh Vidyanagar for Anand; J P Arts and Science College for Broach; S V R COllege of Engineering and Technology and Dr S & S Gandhi Engineering and Technical College for Surat and Mandviconstituencies, respectively and Railway Protection Force Training Institute for Bulsar constituency.
