DECEMBER 16: The Maharashtra Rent Control Bill of 1993, among 14 others, were passed by the state Legislative Council today amid protests by the Opposition. The Rent Control Bill had been referred to the Joint Committee of the Housing Department for amendments after it was first tabled in the Legislature in 1993. Following the amendments, it was tabled in the Upper House today.

The 13 other bills cleared are: 1) The Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Industrial Townships (Amendment and Continuance) Bill, 1999; 2) Maharashtra Metropolitan Planning Committees (Constitution and Functions) (Continuance of Provisions) Bill, 1999; 3) Maharashtra Regional Town Planning (Amendment and Continuance) Bill, 1999; 4) Coroners (Maharashtra Repeal) Bill, 1999; 5) Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Bill, 1999; 6) Maharashtra Krishna Valley Development Corporation, Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (KIDC), Konkan IDC, Maharashtra Tapi IDC and the Maharashtra Godavari Marathwada IDC (Amendment and Continuance) Bill, 1999; 70 Bombay Entertainments Duty (Amendment and Continuance) Bill, 1999; 8) Bombay Village Panchayats (Amendment and Continuance) Bill, 1999; 9) Maharashtra Universities (Amendment and Continuance) Bill, 1999; 10) Maharashtra Pre-School Centres (Regulation of Admission) Bill, 1999; 11) Maharashtra FinanceCommission (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill, 1999; 12) Bombay Motor Vehicles Tax (Amendment and Continuance) Bill, 1999 and; 13) Bombay Motor Spirit Taxation (Amendment and Continuance) Bill, 1999.
