HYDERABAD, April 11: Thirty three-year-old Mohammad Fareed today succumbed to burns he had received after he had been set on fire allegedly by three police constables in the old city yesterday.
Meanwhile, the three police constables responsible for the gory act were suspended today.
Police sources said his body was being shifted to the Osmania general hospital for post mortem. Later, it would be handed over to his family members.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the sensitive areas of the old city to meet any eventuality.
It may be recalled that violence broke out in several parts of the old city following the burning incident. An angry mob also ransacked the Shamshergunj police station.
Meanwhile, Communist Party of India (CPI) Andhra Pradesh unit Secretary S Sudahakar Reddy, MP, condemned the alleged police brutality and demanded the dismissal of the three constables involved in it. He also demanded that adequate compensation should be paid to the family members of Fareed. CPIHyderabad city secretary Azeez Basha also condemned the incident. City Police Commissioner R P Singh informed that the constables, Ather Hussain, Mahabub and Ghouse, were still at large. He indicated that they could be dismissed from the service.
