VADODARA, JUNE 16: The police is learnt to have placed prominent city builders8217; telephone lines under round-the-clock observation following a complaint by a builder that a person identifying himself as Raju Rohida had rang him up on Sunday night demanding ransom.
The caller allegedly threatened to eliminate the complainant, Surendra Patel, residing at Fatehgunj, when he refused to pay up.
Though the police is investigating the case with the seriousness it deserves, some officials suspect that it might be a mischief by somebody known to Patel. Because the dreaded criminal, being hunted by the police, could not dare to collect ransom from anybody at this point of time, they believe.
According to sources, though several people, including Patel8217;s friends and acquaintances were questioned, the police have failed to find any clue as to where the call was made from. A number of other builders had also received similar threats over phone, but they had not lodged a complaint with the police due to various reasons, sources added.
Meanwhile, an official at the Fatehgunj police station said that the case was still being investigated.
