
SOLAPUR, Aug 16: With just a day remaining for filing the nomination papers for the Lok Sabha and assembly elections, the political parties, especially the Congress, remained undecided on the choice of their nominees.
Till Monday, the Congress has not declared the names of candidates from the North Reserve Assembly seat, the North and the South City seats. Even the BJP has not decided on the fate of sitting MLA from North City Narsing Mengajji.
The Shiv Sena has announced the candidature of Shivsaran Patil, a corporator, who had contested the assembly election last time and lost the election only by 2,000 votes. The former district chief Ajay Dasri, who was in the race with, has not welcomed Patil8217;s candidature and is likely to revolt.
Meanwhile, the those candidates who have already got the party tickets are not keen on filing the nomination papers so early as the code of conduct becomes applicable to them. Till Monday, only five candidates had filed the papers.
In a bid to display their popularity and strength, the BJP, Congress, Sena and the CPM have planned to take out processions before filing the papers. Congress spokesperson Malang Nadof said the names of the candidates for assembly seats will be announced by Shinde himself on Tuesday morning.
