THANE, JANUARY 28: Four Congressmen were arrested on charges of assaulting an executive engineer of the Municipal Corporation while he was leading the demolition of the party’s committee office here today, police said.
The engineer, Bharat Bhiwepurkar, was roughed up by the Congressmen this morning when he was leading a squad in demolishing the Congress office near the zilla parishad office in order to widen the road, police said.
The arrested were Dileep Deherkar, Balchandra Mahadik, Ganesh Nerkar and Milind Kharade, police said, adding that Deherkar was also an office bearer of MPCC.
They were charged with rioting and assaulting a Government servant on duty and remanded to magisterial custody by a local court, police added.
Bhiwapurkar was given first aid at the Thane Civil Hospital.
