The Congress today said it has nothing to add to the government reaction to LTTE8217;s apology telecast on NDTV for the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, asking India to put behind the 8216;8216;monumental historical tragedy8217;8217;.
Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma had yesterday rejected the plea, saying forgiving the LTTE for the 8216;8216;dastardly crime8217;8217; would 8216;8216;tantamount to endorsing the philosophy of terror, violence and political assassinations.8217;8217;
8216;8216;The government has already made a statement on the issue. I have nothing to add to that. Party endorses the government8217;s views,8217;8217; Congress spokesman Rajiv Shukla told reporters here. That the party is unwilling to open a new discussion on the sensitive issue was clear from the spokesperson8217;s and other senior leaders8217; refusal to talk on the issue at all. 8216;8216;You are free to draw your own conclusions,8217;8217; Shukla said in reply to a volley of questions on the issue.
Senior Congress functionaries said the party or the government has no intention to be drawn into the Sri Lankan crisis.
