The Congress has decided to turn the heat on the Parkash Singh Badal Government ahead of Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council polls in Punjab next month. It will hold rallies to highlight 8220;political vendetta8221; against Congress workers and 8220;social boycott8221; of Dera Sacha Sauda followers allegedly instigated by the ruling party.

Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi to apprise them of the situation in the state.

According to Bhattal, the Chief Minister has been seeking intervention by the Centre in defusing the situation following the controversy over Dera Sacha Sauda.

8220;Is the Badal Government incapable of maintaining law and order? I requested the PM to ask Badal what role he expects the Centre to play. The PM told me that it is a state subject,8221; Bhattal told The Indian Express.

According to Bhattal, Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had asked his followers to do 8220;conscience voting8221;. 8220;It was the political wing of the Dera Sacha Sauda, which decided to support the Congress.8221;

She alleged that SAD workers were instigating social boycott of Dera followers. 8220;If a Dera follower goes to buy medicines, the chemist refuses. There is an attempt to segregate Dera followers. The Badal Government has launched a political vendetta lodging 111 cases against Congress workers,8221; she said. All these issues will figure during Congress rallies that will be held from the third week of July.
