PUNE, April 24: Slogans demanding State Energy Minister Gopinath Munde8217;s resignation were raised as Congress activists burnt his effigy in protest against daily cuts in power supply and corruption in the Maharashtra State Electricity Board.

The city Congress activists led by the party city unit president Mohan Joshi, former mayor Ankush Kakade, Anant Gadgil today organised an agitation in front of MSEB8217;s Rasta Peth office to protest against power cuts resulting from load shedding.

Agitating Congress activists were shouting anti-government slogans, however, the targets of their attacks were Chief Minister Manohar Joshi and Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde. Slogans like Rajya sarkar ke do gunde, Joshi Munde8217; and Joshi Mundyancha karayacha kay, khali doke var pay8217; were raised.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohan Joshi demanded Munde8217;s resignation alleging that Munde had failed to improve the functioning of MSEB.

8220;Daily power cuts for long hours are causing lot of harassment to Puneites. Besides the corruption in MSEB has reached new heights, as citizens are distributed incorrect electricity bills and then often bribes are demanded to correct them,8221; said Joshi.

Accusing Munde of supplying electricity to Gujarat, even when the state was facing an acute power shortage, various Congress leaders including former MLA Aminuddin Penwale, corporator Ramesh Khanna raised a demand that Munde had no right to continue in the office. The Congress activists were later arrested by the police.
