CHANDIGARH, June 2: A one day conference on Forest Conservation Act and Environmental Protection Act was organised by the Ministry of Environment and Forest.

About 70 delegates from forest department, state environment department, state pollution control boards and from the developmental projects like Nathpa Jhakri, Cement Ambuja participated in the conference. The problems relating to Forest Conservation Act, like delay in approval of projects, deposition and execution of compensatory afforestation funds were discussed during the conference.

C.P. Oberoi, Inspector General of Forests, who was the chief guest on the occasion assured to simplify the procedure of the Act to insure effective implementation of Forest Conservation Act.

Speaking on the occasion, Khazan Singh, Conservator of Forests, Northern Regional Office emphasised the need to organise regular conferences to have better interaction with the developmental and regulatory agencies for the protection of environment and forests.
