BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan was today put on 24-hour dialysis 8220;due to poor functioning of his kidneys8221;, and his condition continued to be critical.

Three days after he was shot at by younger brother Pravin, and two operations later to patch up severe injuries to his liver, pancreas and duodenum, doctors at Hinduja hospital said they were monitoring Mahajan8217;s condition every five to 10 minutes.

8220;There has been no improvement since morning,8221; said Anupam Verma, the hospital8217;s Director, Administration. Reading out from a medical bulletin, Verma said: 8220;Efforts are on to stabilise his condition as fluctuation continues to hamper his health.8221;

He said that Mahajan was under sedation, and still on a life support system in the ICU. While the bleeding in the liver had stopped, the pancreatic and hepatic injuries were still being monitored.

The three bullets fired at Mahajan remain lodged inside his body, and doctors are not considering another surgery at this stage, said Verma.

Vice-president of the Australian College of Surgeons Steven Dean today joined the team of doctors treating Mahajan. 8220;I was on my way to Ahmedabad to start a project there, when Mr Narendra Modi requested me to visit Hinduja,8221; said Dr Dean.
