CHANDIGARH, Nov 30: The 10-year-old posterior slapping case echoed in the District Courts once again today. Senior Punjab IAS officer Rupan Deol Bajaj withdrew the application for payment of the Rs 2 lakh compensation, earlier granted to her by a City court, but stayed by the Supreme Court. Former Punjab Director General of Police K.P.S. Gill, meanwhile, moved an application seeking the refund of Rs 25,000, deposited in the court as compensation to Rupan Deol Bajaj8217;s husband B.R. Bajaj.

Gill had earlier deposited Rs 2.50 lakh in the court on former UT District and Sessions Judge Amar Dutt8217;s directions. While Rs 2 lakh was to be paid to Rupan Deol Bajaj as compensation, Rs 25,000 was to be handed over to B.R. Bajaj. Another Rs 25,000 was to be paid to the State as the costs of proceedings.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court, while upholding the Sessions Judge8217;s orders, had, however, struck down the direction asking Gill to compensate B.R. Bajaj. Today, Rupan Deol Bajaj8217;s counsel stated that the application was being withdrawn quot;for the time beingquot;. She added that a fresh application might be moved after the decision on the Special Leave Petition filed in the Supreme Court. Gill8217;s counsel, on the last date of hearing, had stated that an quot;ad-interim stay on the disbursement of the compensation deposited by the petitionerquot; had been granted by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, in the application seeking the release of 25,000, Gill8217;s counsel stated, quot;there was no controversy regarding Rs 25,000 which was ordered to be paid to B.R.

Bajaj.quot; He added that the Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed Gill to deposit Rs 2 lakh as compensation to Rupan Deol Bajaj and Rs 25,000 to the UT Administration as costs of proceedings.
