PUNE, MARCH 11: Chief Minister Narayan Rane recently called for evaluation and retrospection of the various government schemes launched for the welfare of women in order to find out the benefit really reached upto them.

8220;There is no point in having a stock-pile of the schemes and policies when they are not reaching the target population,8221; he remarked while addressing a function organised by Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal MAVIM and Department of Woman and Child Development.

He further emphasised the need for focussing on the education programmes for women. 8220;Education is the path to progress and the State Government will make all necessary efforts to carry this message to the remotest region of Maharashtra,8221; he added.

Giving an account of the various steps taken by the alliance government for betterment of women the chief minister said, 8220;The Shiv Sena-BJP government has made pioneering efforts in making the State tanker-free by chalking out an entire plan for ensuring water supply to all thevillages.8221;

Over 17,000 villages have been provided with water supply so far and more villages will be covered as the work is continuing, he said while assuring that the government would extend its full support for any schemes for the betterment of women.

Speaking on the occasion MAVIM chairperson Neelam Gorhe called for change in laws and policies pertaining to women for their empowerment.

She further said that women related issues should be given due recognition on the government level. Praising an action plan prepared by former divisional commissioner Arun Bhatia for the betterment of women, Gorhe called for its implementation in the Pune division which Bhatia had started implementing before he was transferred to Pune Municipal Corporation as Commissioner.

Rane orders liquor shops8217; removal

Responding to the observations made by the women representatives from Baramati about liquor shops, Chief Minister Narayan Rane ordered their immediate removal.

Making a statement to this effect,Rane said he had asked District Collector Vijaykumar Gautam to take necessary action. Further, Rane assured that action will be taken on complaint against all such shops throughout the State.
