MUMBAI, April 22: In a major action initiated in the Koregaon Park area today, the Pune civic anti-encroachment squad razed to ground the unauthorised constructions in the side margins and parking lot of German Bakery and two adjoining shops.
According to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials, Dnyaneshwar Kharose, owner of German Bakery, had illegally extended the restaurant area by erecting three tin shed structures, totally admeasuring 428 square feet, in the side margins of the building, located in Vaswaninagar.
Besides, Kharose had encroached upon the parking lot by making a pucca construction (admeasuring 150 square feet) and by erecting a tin shed structure (60 square feet) there, civic sqaud chief Dinkar Kamble said.
The PMC had issued notices to Kharose directing him to remove the illegal structures, but in vain. Kamble said that the illegal construction in the front margin of German Bakery, admeasuirng 3,200 sq feet, could not be demolished as the civil court had in 1992 issued a stay order restraining the PMC from pulling down the structures.
The squad, however, demolished the illegal structures in the front margins of the adjoining Gurumit Restaurant (200 sq feet) and Purnas Market (200 sq feet), besides confiscating the ISD/STD telephone booth. An illegal store house (750 sq feet) constructed by the owners of Gurumit Restaurant in the parking lot of the building was also pulled down. No resistance to the drive was reported.
