Three artists have got together to present a wide range of talent. But as the title says, it8217;s Just a Glimpse8217; of the range their creativity has produced. Mangesh Kudale 8211; a commercial art student, Madhuri Khuperkar and Shailesh Lodha put up their work on display at the Balgandharva Kala Dalan from April 15 to 18. 8220;Though I am a commercial art student, this exhibition includes only my fine art work,8221; says Kudale.

On display are his pencil and colour sketches, paper collages, fibre glass murals, ceramic murals, bamboo work, oil paintings, fabric painting and even stain glass work. 8220;I do not restrict my work to any particular medium. If a particular texture can be achieved by using a different item, I just place it there,8221; he says. Khuperkar, associated with the Sanskar Bharati8217; women8217;s cell, brings to the exhibition a diverse collection of ceramic pots and murals. Shailesh Lodha, exhibiting his work for the first time, has already mastered an impressive Rajasthani style making use of oil, chalk, pens and pencils. They deserve definitely more than a glimpse.

Creativity galore
And in yet another option8230;parents can send their kids to the Creative Workshop this summer. Sharmeen Ghelani promises to use drama for the personality enhancement of 10 to 13-year-olds. Between April 19 and 28, Ghelani, a qualified dramatics teacher, promises to bring hidden talents to the fore through personal attention. She has trained in communication media for children and is said to have considerable experience in using the media for language development and other creative work. The workshop will be held at the Sundarji Nursery off Shankarshet Road.

Dedicated to Naushadsaheb
Junoon means an obsession and that8217;s what music is to me,8221; says light Hindi music performer P. Mandakini. Through her music group Junoon, this crooner, formerly known as a ghazal singer has launched her career as a singer of light Hindi film songs. On April 16 Hindi film music buffs will be able to witness Mandakini8217;s new musical programme called Jashn-e-Jugnu at 9.30 p.m. at the Tilak Smarak Mandir. The songs featured are of classical-based Hindi film songs from 1979 8211; 1999.

A singer who has trained under Rambhau Patwardhan and Ustad Syeddudin Dagar, Mandakini turned to singing film songs from ghazals because she discovered how popular old film songs were. She attributes her own selection of songs from an earlier era to the enduring quality of music of that time.8220;The hummable tunes, the depth of genuine feelings in their lyrics and the melodious singers were what made songs of the golden era so popular,8221; she says.

The inspiration for Jashn-e-Jugnu is renowned music director Naushad Ali. 8220;At a function where he was invited as chief guest Naushadsaheb commented that due to the increasing western influence in our music he only saw darkness ahead in the field of film music. I resolved to do something about it and in a bid to revive melody came up with the idea of songs from films made between 1979 and 1999 which had a classical base from films like Roja, Lekin and Sardari Begum. The programme is dedicated to Naushadsaheb.8221;

Mandakini along with her group already has four programmes based on different music concepts to her credit. Chilman ke us par, songs from 1931-1951 and covers singers like Shamshad Begum, Kanan Devi, Johrabai. Noor-e-noor songs of singer Noor Jehan8217;s, Mel-Jol romantic duets from 1950 -1970 and Malik ke Sharan Mein based on devotional songs from films.
