Photo finish
For most of us, a photograph in the newspapers serves to illustrate a news item. But a photograph of a news event can also be viewed independently, as a picture that tells its own story. Press photographers in Pune will demonstrate just how at an exhibition of photographs to be held at the Balgandharva Kala Dalan.
The main theme of the exhibition covers scenes of the 400 k.m. Kailas Mansarovar trek, undertaken and captured on film by prize-winning photographer Mohan Bane. A Mumbai-based photographer with The Indian Express group, Bane was among the 11th batch of yatris 8211; the 12th batch perished in the landslides 8211; and had to abandon the latter part of his trek, which explains the title of the exhibition 8211; An Unfinished Journey.8217;

Inside story
Seems like Pune is the hot, happening place these days. How else can one explain the presence of all the la-di-dah shows here? The latest to join the bandwagon is the Inside Outside exhibition. On at the SSPMS grounds, this exhibition is a must-see for all house-proud people.
For everything from building materials like wooden frames, tiles and so on, to furniture, furnishing fabrics, artefacts and the like is on display and sale. The piece-de-resistance, however, is a veiled face made of marble. One can actually see through the marble veil as though one were seeing through a fabric. The exhibition is not all there is to this event. A contest was held for all the 175 stall-owners, which was judged by six architects. In the interiors category, Armstrong Ceiling and Flooring won the first prize. In the Furniture and Furnishing category, it was Alwin Furnitures that walked away with the number one title and in the building category, ERD Parryware came first. Organised by the Business India group, the exhibition is on up to January 10.
