
GURDASPUR/NASHIK, SEPT 1: Filmstar-politician Vinod Khanna and several others were injured when a group of persons allegedly led by a Congress leader attacked them in Pathankot town late Tuesday night, police sources said on Wednesday.
Congress Municipal Councillor Jang Bahadur Jangi has been arrested and ten of his supporters have been listed as the accused in the FIR, Gurdaspur SSP Varinder Kumar said. The ten accused were absconding but would be caught soon, he added.
Khanna, who is seeking re-election to the Lok Sabha as BJP candidate from Gurdaspur, and his personal assistant Samrinder Sharma suffered minor injuries. The police personnel, who were providing security to Khanna, Sub-Inspector Surjit Singh, constable Gurdev Singh and Khanna8217;s car driver Kishan were admitted to the civil hospital at Pathankot, the sources added.
Khanna8217;s car was extensively damaged in the attack. The group of more than ten people had allegedly stopped Khanna8217;s car a short distance from his rally site in Four MarlaQuarter of Ward 22 around 11.30 pm. After forcing Khanna, his PA, and driver out of the vehicle, they threw stones at him.
Meanwhile, three people were injured in a stampede at an election meeting of cine star Dilip Kumar at Shirpur in Dhule district on Tuesday night after police lathicharged the crowd which, irked over his late arrival, pelted stones and sandals.
As soon as Dilip started addressing the well-attended meeting to seek vote for Congress candidate Amarishbhai Rasiklal Patel contesting from Shirpur Assembly constituency, people started throwing stones and sandals, prompting the police to lathi-charge, police said.
