Christians build8217; a case against VHP

The incident occurred barely a few hours after 20 members of a Christian family got reconverted8217; to Hinduism at a function organised by the VHP.

The police have registered a case against 12 for criminal trespass. However, there have been no arrests so far.

8220;After a yagna, havan and the suddhikaran ceremony in the morning, a little away from the structure, we returned home. We do not know who demolished the structure and why,8221; says Babu Ram Garg, a local cloth merchant and an RSS activist who participated in the reconversion ceremony.

There are about six huge Grarariya families in Faridabad who say that they are not converts but have inherited Christianity.

Kailash Singhal, general secretary of the VHP8217;s Haryana unit, said: 8220;That was not a church, of course the land was purchased in the name of some padri from Madras. Some structure was there but not a single person of either RSS or BJP was involved in the demolition.8221;

However, the Christians allege that the demolition was the handiwork of the Sangh members. 8220;They came in a large number and dismantled the building, 8221; says Maya, a Christian, who lives near the church site.

Shanti, a Hindu who lives near the demolished structure, says: 8220;Around 30-40 young people dismantled the structure that day. I do not know why they did this and who they were.8221;

V J Dialle, of the Indian Christian Welfare Association Faridabad adds: 8220;That was a school-cum-church. And it was demolished by mischievous persons who do not have respect for the religion.8221;

The Christians think the demolition is related to their refusal to reconvert. 8220;A fortnight ago, they the VHP activists came to us and had invited us to take to Hinduism but we refused,8221; says Maya. She says she was told that since she was a Hindu earlier there were no problems in changing the faith again.

Yad Ram, who reconverted, however, says he did it on his own and there was no pressure on him.
