CHANDIGARH, Nov 25: The NIFD Kid o8217; Fest was claimed to be a familiarisation drive for the MTV generation with the traditions and festivals of our country. But what one got to see on the dais was the extent of influence the music channels have on our little ones as well as their parents. And did we not get a hint from the compere, Tushar Malik, 7, when he said,8220;Our mamas and papas never designed dresses for us. So the aunts and uncles of NIFD have designed them for us8221;.
And they did design them well, but whether the designs suited the theme was a different matter altogether. For who wears sarongs, the perennial beachware of models, on Holi? Well, that is what the NIFD brains made the kids wear in the round depicting the festival of colours. Valentine8217;s Day was added on to this theme of Indian festivals and we had those stepping into the adolescent phase, in bright red and white skirts and off-shoulder tops. One wondered at the propriety of having the pre-teenage girls sashay in these slightly revealing dresses.
But when their mothers themselves were busy clicking away their daughters, the rest of us do not need to play morality-keepers. Nevertheless, the first round was the most memorable part of the event when tiny tots in the age group of 2 to 5 came dressed in all possible kids8217; wear. There was no inhibition or stage fright as they came, did a jig and walked off. It was this lot who really conquered us. And can we forget the flying kisses that the three-year-old showered upon us, especially on the cameramen?
