PHILLAUR, MARCH 14: 8220;Terrorism which once threatened Punjab has almost disappeared. But the threat from pan-Islamic terrorism is still not behind us,8221; asserted Governor of Punjab Lt. Gen retd BKN Chhibber while speaking at the annual passing out parade at the Punjab Police Academy.

Police trainees from various states who were here for the basic and promotional courses, took part in the parade which was followed by a mass PT display and an impressive show of shooting and equestrian skills by Punjab Police personnel. The President8217;s Police medal for distinguished service and police medal for meritorious service announced on Republic Day, were awarded today to police personnel from the state at an investiture ceremony held after the parade.

DGP Sarabjit Singh who has taken charge recently, said while speaking that emphasis would be laid on more transparency in police functioning and added that efforts were required to bring about behavioural and attitudinal changes among the police personnel at all levels. He said Punjab Police officers could now add to their educational qualifications by enrolling for M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees at the academy. Guru Nanak Dev University has permitted the academy to allow police officers to take these examinations as private candidates.
