GROUP E
Arsenal 1 vs Panathinaikos 1
Arsenal wasted a golden opportunity to virtually guarantee themselves a place in the knockout phase when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Panathinaikos at Highbury on Tuesday. The Greek champions salvaged a point when Pascal Cygan tried to block a powerful Loukas Vintra drive but merely diverted the ball past Jens Lehmann and into his own goal after 75 minutes.

Arsenal had taken the lead in the 16th minute when Thierry Henry scored from the spot after Sotiris Kirgiakos sent Patrick Vieira tumbling in the box.

FC Barcelona 2 vs AC Milan 1
A brilliant late strike from Ronaldinho gave Barcelona a 2-1 win over AC Milan at the Nou Camp. The Brazilian forward brought the crowd to its feet when he jinked his way past two defenders and fired an unstoppable shot high into the net just two minutes from time to give the dominant Catalans a thoroughly deserved win. Milan had taken the lead against the run of play when Ukraine international Andriy Shevchenko finished off a razor-sharp break with a cool finish in the 17th minute. But the Catalans, who dominated throughout, responded by pouring forward and gained their reward when Samuel Eto’O lashed home after the outstanding Xavi had split open the Milan defence with a fine pass.

Werder Bremen moved a step closer to the knockout stage with a 5-1 thrashing of Anderlecht on Tuesday, striker Ivan Klasnic scoring a hat-trick against the young Belgian side. Lively Croat striker Klasnic opened his account with a long-range left-foot strike after 77 seconds, then skilfully steered in a second following a corner. The Anderlecht side pulled one back through Oleg Iachtchouk but Miroslav Klose settled the game three minutes later and then Klasnic and Daniel Jensen rounded things off.
