Chatterati’s tryst with police — Why can’t cops install an elevator here?’

By noon, the glamour brigade was abuzz with the news that Manu Sharma had surrendered. Apart from those who had been called by the police for interrogation, there were those like designer Mala Agarwal and cosmetologist Robina Sharma who had turned up to hear the latest.

Bal reached the police station at 2 pm. Dressed in brown trousers and a white shirt, he was seen pacing down the corridor, waiting to be interrogated by the police about the happenings at Tamarind Court on the fateful night. He was accompanied by his aunt.

While Bal cooled his heels in the midst of load-shedding, Malini Ramani and George Mailhot were being interrogated by the Malviya Nagar police. For hours, the duo remained locked in a room on the second floor of the south district police headquarters located adjacent to the police station. With no make-up on her face and dressed in a pink salwar kameez, a shaken Malini came out of the room along with Mailhot after the questioning. Malini refused to speak to mediapersons and walked straight out to her car parked outside.

As constables at the police station came to have a peek at the unusual visitors, one of the visitors shrieked, “How can I climb up to the second floor to meet the DCP? Why can’t the cops install an elevator here?”

Somebody else shouted: “Why isn’t the police station air-conditioned? It is so hot.” In an attempt to soothe frayed nerves, Rohit Bal ordered burgers and soft drinks from McDonald’s on his mobile phone for everyone.

Meanwhile, a few concerned friends of Jessica turned up at the police station. They were escorted into a separate room where the policemen questioned them. After an hour, when they came out, they had this to say: “No one wants to punish Manu.”
