
Sonia holds back Laloo
In a sudden development, the Congress high command today stalled Laloo Yadav8217;s scheduled announcement of the poll pact between the two parties and sought a 8220;reworking8221; of yesterday8217;s deal, in what is being seen as a last-ditch attempt to prevent a revolt in its Bihar unit. Party president Sonia Gandhi got in touch with Laloo in the morning and 8220;requested8221; him not to announce the details of the deal in which his Rashtriya Janata Dal RJD, Congress, CPM, CPI and MCC were each given a quota from Bihar8217;s 54 seats to the Lok Sabha to form a secular front against the BJP-led bloc.
Brigadier alleges frequent postings
Former Commander of the 121 Infantry Brigade in Kargil, Brig. Surinder Singh, said in a petition filed at the Punjab and Haryana High Court that he was issued six posting orders in one-and-a-half months. The Brigadier, who is on 30 days annual leave here, has now been asked to report to Leh, Headquarters of 3 Infantry Division, with immediate effect for a possible inquiry.
ISI gameplan foiled; 11 held
In a major success, Jammu police has unearthed an ISI module out to create disturbance and arrested 11 members of Lashkar-e-Toiba from different parts of the country. Giving details about the carefully executed operation at a press conference here, Gurbachan Jagat, DGP, Jammu and Kashmir Police, said the saboteurs who had received extensive training in Pakistan had been given specific tasks to create trouble in the country.
