
PUNE, Oct 11: Booty, totally estimated at over Rs 1.58 lakh, was lifted in five separate thefts and burglaries recorded in various parts of Pune since Friday.
One of these cases was solved within minutes due to the presence of mind shown by a police constable who witnessed a chain-snatching incident taking place on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road and arrested the perpetrator after a brief chase.
The gold chain, stolen from Abhishek S. Deonath, has been recovered from the alleged chain snatcher, Christi John Rajmani 18 of Bhavani Peth, Bund Garden police said.
Deonath, a 22-year-old resident of Mangalwar Peth was walking down Dr Ambedkar Road along with his friend on Friday evening when Rajmani snatched his gold chain and ran away, police said.
Constable Y.A. Dhumal, who was returning to the Khadki police station after meeting his superiors at the Police Commissioner8217;s office, noticed the incident and apprehended Christi after a brief chase, they added.
In a separate incident at Aundh, Anita Deorajan 27 of NCL8217;s New Hostel at Pashan was relieved of her gold chain. Anita was strolling near the NCL shopping centre when an unidentified man snatched her gold chain and sped away on a scooter, a complaint lodged with the Chatuhshrungi police said.
Umesh Gajanan Rege of Santnagar in Aranyeshwar area was relieved of his suitcase containing cash and ornaments totally worth over Rs 45,000 at the Swargate State Transport bus terminus.
Rege had kept his suitcase on a seat inside a Kolhapur-bound bus from where it was stolen. In a complaint lodged with the Swargate police, Rege has expressed suspicion that the theft might have been committed by a couple which alighted from the bus immediately after boarding it.
Cash and some hardware, totally estimated at over Rs 71,000, was stolen from Chinchwad-based Sach Traders, according to a complaint lodged by the shopowner, Harish Tejwani.
Gold and silver ornaments, totally estimated to be worth Rs 30,400 were stolen from the residence of Kamla D. Bhalla in Wanowrie area.
