Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly was adjourned till Monday after the Opposition Congress created ruckus for the second consecutive day over the alleged remarks made by former BJP MP Ram Vilas Vedanti against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at a religious function on Monday.
Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey adjourned the proceeding as the Congress MLAs disrupted the proceedings demanding Vedanti’s immediate arrest for using obnoxious remarks against senior party leaders.
The Opposition members did not allow the House to take up any business. Congress legislator Satyanarayan Sharma said Chhattisgarh was a peaceful state and BJP leaders were trying to disturb the communal harmony with provocative speeches.
The Opposition didn’t heed to Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey’s advise to complete the Question Hour despite assurances that the matter would be taken up later. The persistent Congress sloganeering compelled the Speaker to adjourn the proceedings for ten minutes. However, when the Opposition members kept on raising slogans even after the House reassembled, the Speaker adjourned the House till Monday.
