MUMBAI, April 22: Central Railway Mumbai Division CRMD, after taking a first innings lead of 283 runs over Brihan Mumbai Mahanagarpalika BMM, did well to capture three wickets for 12 in the BMM second innings on the second day of the four-day final of the Times H Division Shield cricket tournament at the Karnatak Sporting Association ground, Cross maidan, today.

The railmen, resuming at 158 for one, went on to score 429 in reply to BMM8217;s total of 146.

Overnight batsmen Deepak Kanojia 83 with 10215;4 and left-hander Sudhakar Chavan 49 with 7215;4 added 71 runs for the second wicket. Thereafter Dhananjay Ketkar, who was the most successful bowler, chipped in with 70 with eight hits to the ropes. Yeshwant Gavad, who took three wickets yesterday, batted at No 8 and scored 54, while M Girish contributed 68 with six fours while batting at No 10. Off-spinner Natha Chavan was the most successful bowler with eight for 120 in 42.3 overs.

The BMM batsmen once again were in trouble against the off-spin of Ketkarand were 12 for three at draw of stumps. Ketkar finished the day with three for zero off three overs.

Holy Cross win

Holy Cross B8217; Kurla defeated St. Vincent Palloti Marol 6-5 via the tie-breaker in the Bro Eulalio Vaz Memorial Football Tournament at Kurla here today. Full-time ended 2-all. Johnny Dias gave Holy Cross the lead, but Adolf Vaz got equaliser. Vivian Kotian made 2-1 for St. Vincent but the next minute 57th, Holy Cross neutralised through Johnny Dias. In the tie-breaker, Namdeo Chinkate, Namdeo Pervi, Johnny Dias and Mario Susai scored for the winners while Lancer Mendonsa, Evan Fernandes, Adolf Vaz netted for the losers.

Easy win for CR MD

Central Railway, Mumbai defeated Young Khalsa Gymkhana 4-2 in a senior Division organised by BombayHockey Association at the Mahindras Stadium today. Now Central Railway is leading the senior division with 19 points and are the only unbeatable team. Right-winger Edwin Moti was the main schemer today for the railway team. He helped his side to get a 3-0 lead in the first-half. He dribble past couple of Khalsa defender and then laid a pass for Aldrin Bird who gave no chance to Karan Bhasin. Bird was again in thick of action in the 26th minute when a penalty stroke was awarded. Bird converted the stroke and put his team ahead. After doing a lot of hard work in the middle, Moti gave a angular pass to Amrik Singh who did no mistake to score in the empty goal.

Khalsa came back strongly in the second half to slam two goals in 12 minutes. Aditya Menon 53rd and Surinder Singh Sehmi 65th were the goal-scorers.

However, Amrik Singh8217;s last minute strike ensured Central Railway8217;s victory.
